Barbarian can be described in three words: what the f*ck.

Yep. I said that. 2022’s most under-marketed film is also one of the years best. Barbarian is such a thrill ride that takes numerous twists and turns while also being funny and endearing.

Without spoiling anything, Barbarian has a really sick and twisted plot that takes many unexpected turns. This was something I really enjoyed and the format in which the story was told was different but a welcome change. As soon as you get into the story, it took a sharp 180 and kept you on the edge of your seat. Great work here.

The acting is also a strong point here. Georgina Campbell, Justin Long and Bill Skarsgård make for an exciting trio to watch and each one delivers a strong performance. Georgina Campbell established herself as one of the best final girls we’ve seen in ages through her compelling performance as Tess while Justin Long’s performance as A.J showed a great character arc. something uncommon in horror movies.

Barbarian is downright disturbing. I knew that going in. However, the severity of it was not something I was expecting. Barbarian has the honor of being the first movie to make me nearly throw up in a movie theatre. Yeah, it’s pretty disgusting. The effects used in the film seemed practical and looked stellar.

The originality of this movie stood out to me the most. Sure, it’s about a killer chasing people but it’s a killer chasing people done in a completely original and unique way. We’ve never seen something like this and I think that’s why Barbarian is so special.

The script is also great. While the horror genre gets lots of flack for the lack of originality in the writing, this script is different, funny and scary all at once. This, again, is due to the brilliance of director Zach Cregger. He somehow manages to make me laugh one second then get scared and cover my eyes the next second. Great work here.

Overall, I absolutely loved Barbarian. It’s a breath of fresh air for the horror genre and one of the finest horror films in years. It’s a must see movie and I implore all of you to see it in theatres with an audience, you won’t regret it.
