It’s no secret that I adored Spider-Man: No Way Home. I think it was a great movie and probably my favourite Marvel movie ever. That being the case, you can imagine my excitement and anticipation for the home media release. We all saw the list of deleted scenes and Sony even promised us 20 minutes focused solely on Tobey Maguire and Andrew Garfield. However, I was quite disappointed overall with the final package. The promised behind-the scenes were missing and there were no deleted scenes in sight. I was certain that this Blu-Ray was going to be a “must buy”, but sadly, it missed the mark.
Firstly, let’s go through what I liked. As said before, I love this film. It was the best Spider-Man film yet and it was a love letter to almost 20 years of Spider-Man films. I stand by that opinion for this new release as well. The film looks just as nice as it did in theatres although I do wish that we had the option to watch the vastly superior IMAX version of the film. You can read my full thoughts on the film here.
The special features on this Blu-Ray, while lacking at times, are still quite enjoyable. It was really cool to see some of the pre-viz scenes and fight coordination and how they were done. I also enjoyed the smaller sequences, but again, I was hoping for more from these features and I felt slightly let down.
My biggest gripe with this one was, without a doubt, the lack of deleted scenes. We got a full list of deleted scenes a while back and knowing that there were more scenes for fans that included Matt Murdock, the villains, and of course, the 3 Peters, is the stuff of dreams. However, unless Sony does something soon, these scenes will never see the light of day. The list was extensive and promising and it’s a shame fans won’t get a chance to see them. You can read the full list here.
Overall, I felt a bit let down with the film’s home media release. I’d say that if you’re a fan looking to add to your MCU collection or Spider-Man collection, pick this one up (try and get the gorgeous Best Buy steelbook if you can). Otherwise, I see no reason to add this to your collection. It had the potential to be an excellent release but alas, it wasn’t.
