After a listing appeared on the AMC Theatres site, multiple sources have confirmed to One Take News that 2023’s The Little Mermaid will have a runtime of 135 minutes (2 hours and 15 minutes) and OTN has learned that the film’s approximate runtime is 02:15:03. With this runtime locked in, The Little Mermaid has broken the record for the longest live-action Disney remake, a record previously held. by 2021’s Cruella, which clocked in just one minute shorter, at 134 minutes.

For comparison, Disney’s 1989 animated classic is only 83 minutes long, compared to the 135 minute runtime of Rob Marshall’s 2023 remake. Compared to other live action Disney remakes, the next closest ones are Cruella, Beauty and the Beast and Aladdin, which clock in at 134 minutes, 129 minutes and 128 minutes, respectively.

The Little Mermaid is one of Disney’s most interesting remakes yet. It’s set to make numerous changes including changing lyrics to some of the classic songs from the original film, adding new songs courtesy of Lin Manuel Miranda and most notably, casting a Halle Bailey, person of color, in the role of Ariel. While this choice was met with controversy from a certain group of people, OTN hears that Bailey’s performance in the film was very well-received by test audiences and she knocks it out of the park on the songs.
