The group of potential Ghostface victims just got bigger, with the latest addition already familliar with surviving killers. Sources tell OTN that Celeste O’Connor, who starred in this year’s Madame Web, is in talks to join Scream 7. No word on their role just yet. O’Connor joins an ensemble cast that includes Neve Campbell returning to the franchise as Sidney Prescott, after missing the last film due to pay disputes. 1883 actress Isabel May will play Sidney’s daughter, rumoured to be named after her mother’s best friend, Tatum Riley, played by Rose McGowan in the 1996 original.
Spyglass and Paramount had no comment on the casting at the time of this article going up. We will update should this change.
O’Connor is no stranger to the genre of horror. In 2020, they starred alongside Kathryn Newton and Vince Vaughn in Freaky, which released to critical acclaim and is looked back upon as one of the best slashers of the 2020s. They also starred in the most recent Ghostbusters movies and Madame Web. A return to horror would be very welcome to O’Connor, who’s delivered some top notch acting in the genre.
Scream 7 has had a long road to production. Orignally set to be helmed by Freaky and Happy Death Day director Christopher Landon due to Radio Silence wanting to work on Abigail and Ready or Not 2, the happiness of a renowned horror director was short-lived when franchise star Melissa Barrera was fired after speaking out against the genocide going on in Gaza and the call for a ceasefire. Jenna Ortega also exited the project as well, due to scheduling conflicts. Without the two leading ladies from V and VI returning, things got even worse when Landon exited the project, citing the toll it took on his mental health as well as the toxicity and threats from the fanbase. Kevin Williamson, the franchise creator and producer since the original, signed onto direct the feature, a first for him in the franchise. Since then, the seventh instalment has had a smooth road to production, as sources tell us an early 2025 production start is in the cards.
Scream 7 will release in theatres on February 27, 2026.
