The first season of What If…? has come to an end and it’s been a blast to watch the creative storylines that have come out of this series. After last week’s phenomenal episode, I couldn’t wait to see the finale and, for the most part, I really liked it. Let’s dive into it!

In essence, the Watcher assembles many of the heroes we have seen in past episodes, namely Captain Carter, Thor, Killmonger, Strange Supreme, Gamora and T’Challa’s Star Lord and tasks them with defeating Ultron and destroying the Infinity Stones he has in his possession.
This action-packed episode delivers on many fronts but has one glaring problem, they introduced a new version of Gamora with no context for the viewer. If you are asking yourself if you missed an episode, the answer is yes…and no. According to A.C. Bradley, the executive producer of the show, there were some pandemic related delays and this season ended up being one episode short…the episode that would have explained this new version Gamora. Despite this, fans can take some comfort in knowing that the missing episode will appear in season two where Tony Stark finds himself as an arena fighter in Sakaar who ends up joining forces with Gamora. So, while there was some confusion in this episode, there will be some clarity on it in the next season.
The animation in this episode is top notch. There are some jaw dropping sequences that are spectacular to look at including a super cool scene involving Ultron’s armor and another with Strange Supreme unleashing his powers.
All in all, this was a fine episode. I think that they missed the opportunity to share a clip from the upcoming Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness in a credits scene due to the fact that some of the characters from What If…? will be making appearances in that film but other than that, this is a 8.5/10 for me. What did you think of the finale and the first season overall? Let us know!
