UPDATE: On February 12th, 2022, the good folks over at @BatgirlFilm posted set photos showing Michael Keaton in the Batsuit filming his scenes for Batgirl. Our scoop has now been confirmed!
Batgirl is slowly becoming one of the most anticipated superhero films of 2022. With In The Heights star Leslie Grace playing Barbra Gordon, Brendan Fraser playing Firefly and J.K Simmons returning as Commissioner Gordon, it’s not hard to see why. However, in December 2021, fans were shocked when Michael Keaton was revealed to be joining the cast of Batgirl after Keaton was revealed to be returning to the role in 2022’s The Flash. However, just because filming has begun on Batgirl, don’t expect to get your first look at Keaton on set for a bit longer.
Sources tell One Take News that Michael Keaton is currently slated to begin filming his scenes for Batgirl in February 2022. It’s worth nothing he was originally scheduled to begin filming this month but due to COVID-19, they pushed the start date back. While we don’t think his start date will change this time, there’s still a chance it could.
Considering filming has been happening for about 2 months now, it’s safe to say Keaton will have a supporting role in Batgirl. This makes complete sense as Batgirl is being set up to introduce Barbra Gordon into the DCEU and having Keaton’s Batman be too prominent in the film could overshadow the new heroine.
Plot details are being kept under wraps but the story is expected to follow Barbra Gordon as she fights the villain Firefly. Commissioner Gordon and Bruce Wayne are expected to appear in supporting roles although as of right now, it’s unknown if Keaton will don the Batsuit or if he’ll just be Bruce Wayne.
Batgirl is currently filming in Glasgow and stars Leslie Grace, Brendan Fraser, J.K Simmons and Michael Keaton. It will release on HBO Max in 2022. What do you make of this news? Let us know!
