After months of rumors and an official announcement FINALLY two weeks ago, people, including yours truly, have seen the highly anticipated and secretive Werewolf By Night. These early reactions are a mix of press who saw the special for interviews and some lucky Fantastic Fest attendees who saw the film at a surprise screening tonight. Check out the reactions below!
Marvel took a big swing with #WerewolfByNight and they knocked it out of the park. I love how the campy horror vibes blended with the Marvel style! @GaelGarciaB is the perfect actor to play Jack Russell and Man Thing will become a fan favourite! @m_giacchino didn't disappoint. pic.twitter.com/jSdxOnIR7j

Hats off to @m_giacchino for taking directorial risks that pay off in #WerewolfByNight, delivering awesome characters and monsters in a violent black & white saga.

Elsa kicks ass. Jack is a great, unpredictable addition. Hope to see more.
I immediately wanted to watch again. pic.twitter.com/whtr7VdzMV
My #WerewolfByNight thoughts: Marvel's new MCU monsters and leads are awesome, as is Michael Giacchino's direction & music as well! The supporting characters are not on the same level, but Werewolf By Night is still a thrilling Halloween special they should keep doing more of. pic.twitter.com/AARanUHjw4

Adored @m_giacchino’s #WerewolfByNight, a delicious Halloween treat that is funny, violent, and full of wonderful new additions to the MCU. (There are also some great surprises so watch out for spoilers!) Can we get an all-monster Avengers? Gael Garcia Bernal can lead the team 🐺 pic.twitter.com/Iu3TLws4is

Marvel’s #WerewolfByNight is a spooky & moody monster tale w/ beautiful photography & big throwback vibes. Director Michael Giacchino does a great job blending the look & feel of classic horror from the ‘30s & ‘40s w/ amusing MCU touches. Ted is MVP, imo. Fun & different pic.twitter.com/tP2usD3AJO

I’m excited for more @MarvelStudios Special Presentations because #WerewolfByNight had me howling at the moon with its horrifying visuals & gripping story. @M_Giacchino promises to scare you & give you something fresh and bold. @DisneyPlus @DisneyPlusCA pic.twitter.com/oIEFPba8pY

Michael Giacchino’s #WerewolfByNight captures the aesthetic of old 40s Hollywood horror but with a Marvel flair. It’s has the right amount of suspense to draw you in and get you terrified. Gael García Bernal is fantastic and Lauren Donnelly is bad ass!@MarvelStudios @m_giacchino pic.twitter.com/3Xxb6VwElP

WEREWOLF BY NIGHT is the confident swing in tone from Marvel on Disney+ that I’ve been waiting for.
— Erik Voss (@eavoss) September 26, 2022
Genuinely scary at times and dripping with macabre camp, it doesn’t pull punches in violent delights.
Michael Giacchino pulled off something truly special.
More of this please!
… oh my, does Harriet Sansom Harris make the most of an especially delicious role.

A score AND directing win for Giacchino. Set design, creature effects, fight choreography, and B&W gore are all stellar and he & cinematographer Zoë White know JUST how to photograph them.
#WerewolfByNight is a classic Hollywood monster movie you won’t want to end. SPOOKY and STRIKING, it’s one of the coolest things EVER to come out of the MCU. @GaelGarciaB is thrilling to watch suppress the beast within. More Jack Russell! What can’t @m_giacchino do at this point? pic.twitter.com/P1AB1702td

There is so much to love about #WerewolfByNight. @m_giacchino did such a glorious job with this, his directorial debut. Loved the black and white aspect in the first episode. Everything about the first episode screams ghoulishly great. I watched it twice. Can’t wait for more. pic.twitter.com/xdqShNxYbV

Much like how I think Prey was a model for how to do low budget continuations of big franchises, Werewolf By Night is an example of how Marvel can take more risks and tell different kinds of stories.

Didn’t expect the first #FantasticFest Secret Screening to be #WerewolfByNight directed by @m_giacchino one of my favorite composers. If you’re nostalgic for creature features of the 1930s this will be right up your alley. There’s plenty of blood and gore, and exciting fights. pic.twitter.com/1LYqP0jWJP

I love #WerewolfByNight! The throwback black and white classic horror approach works perfectly for the story and feels so unique within the MCU. It’s an exciting example of how they can push boundaries. The cast are great and I hope to see more of them and of this type of thing. pic.twitter.com/YJoTqmPXWo

#werewolfbynight feels like an instant classic and immediately rewatchable. The fact that the entire production was as practical as possible – from the set, to the costumes, etc made this feel realer than any thing we’ve seen in the MCU.
— James Viscardi (@JimViscardi) September 26, 2022
#WerewolfByNight is the most idiosyncratic MCU project since GOTG. As good? No. But it’s a remarkable breath of fresh air to see Marvel try something like this, as its tone and style are VERY MUCH that of the trailer.

More like this, please. Comics are weird. Let’s be weird. 🐺 pic.twitter.com/Z2kCmEYohM
Marvel's #WerewolfByNight is a classic universal monster movie by way of the MCU. An absolute hoot and doesn't skimp on the violence. Marvel is and should be many different things, including TALES OF SUSPENSE-style horror. Very much my s***#FantasticFest pic.twitter.com/YpOfoSCVcM

Marvel’s WEREWOLF BY NIGHT is the 70s horror comics through a 1930s lens. Super fun. And goes way harder than Marvel ever has. Plus it includes an amazing Cult comic character you are not gonna see coming and I can’t believe I saw on the big screen. A true spooky October treat.
