The Exorcist curse strikes yet again.

David Gordon Green’s upcoming reboot of the beloved horror classic The Exorcist has paused production, sources have confirmed to One Take News.

According to Deadline, who first broke the news, production is shutting down due to an “unspecified health issue” star Leslie Odom Jr. has. The hope is for production to start in January 2023.

The film has been in the works since 2020 and began by filming scenes with the elderly Ellen Burstyn prior to February 2022. Burstyn will be returning as Chris MacNeil, a role originated in 1973’s The Exorcist. The rest of the cast began shooting in October 2022 and while production was supposed to wrap up in January 2023, this bump in production could cause that end date to slightly change.

Blumhouse had no comment.

Read the brief synopsis for 2023’s The Exorcist:

The father of a possessed child, desperate for help goes in search of someone who has had similar experiences, Chris MacNeil.

The Exorcist reboot stars Leslie Odom Jr, Ellen Burstyn, Ann Dowd and Nedim Jahić. The film is slated to release on October 13, 2023.

We’re hoping Odom Jr. has a speedy recovery from whatever he has contracted and that he’ll be back in front of the cameras in no time!
