It’s game over for the Saw franchise, this time maybe for good.

Sources confirmed to OTN that Saw XI, which was announced immediately after Saw X released to critical acclaim and commercial success in 2023, is no longer in development. The writing has been on the wall for quite some time and is an open secret in Hollywood at this point. The film kept getting delayed from its Halloween 2024 release. However, sources said that this wasn’t the main reason for the project being killed.

Lionsgate had no comment at the time of this article being published. We will update it should we hear back.

From what we understand, the final nail in the coffin has been due to a feud between the producers of Saw that has been ongoing for at least a year. There was hope in January that they’d resolve their differences and the film would begin shooting this month. However, sources said everything came to a screeching halt out of nowhere in February. The story would’ve focused on Jigsaw, Hoffman, and Amanda, with Tobin Bell, Costas Mandylor, and Shawnee Smith all set to return.

Interestingly enough, Tobin Bell’s age did not seem to be a major factor into the film’s descent into cancellation. Sources mentioned to us that while it was definitely a concern in pre-production, the 82 year old was in great spirits and more than physically okay on the set of Saw X.

THIS IS A DEVELOPING STORY…

Bloody Disgusting broke the news first about Saw XI’s cancellation.
