UPDATE: An hour after our original story went up, our good friend Aaron Couch at The Hollywood Reporter corroborated our story and kindly credited us. After this, Karan Soni himself confirmed the news on his Instagram and kindly gave us a shoutout!

Karan Soni is making the leap from one Marvel franchise to another, as sources tell One Take News he’s been cast in Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse. Sources tell us Soni will play Pavitr Prabhakar, also known as Spider-Man India. Soni is the latest addition to the Spider-Verse family and sources tell us he’s expected to play a significant role in the film.

Sony declined to comment.

Soni is no stranger to the Marvel family. He’s best known for appearing in the Deadpool films as Dopinder, the taxi driver who befriends Deadpool or Mr. Pool, as he calls him, and he becomes his de facto chauffeur and friend. It’s currently unknown if Soni will appear in Deadpool 3, which is slated to begin production in London this Spring.

In the comics, Pavitr Prabhakar is just a kid from Mumbai, India who is given the powers of a spider by an ancient yogi. He then fights crime as Spider-Man India. His story is a nearly 100% mirrored to Peter Parker’s and this iteration of the character has become popular amongst readers since his introduction in 2005.
