Saw is a franchise that has had many ups and downs. Widely credited with reviving the horror genre in the 2000’s after Scream parodies and knockoffs saturated the market, the franchise brought something new and fresh to the genre. However, most people didn’t like the concept of the franchise and it became known more as “torture p**n” and nothing else. Since it’s inception in the early 2000’s, there have been nine Saw films with the most recent being 2021’s Spiral starring Chris Rock and Samuel L. Jackson. We’ve known that a tenth film is in the works for a while now and it looks like it’s going to be bringing back a fan favourite character.

One Take News has learnt from sources that Tobin Bell is being eyed to return as John Kramer/Jigsaw in the upcoming Saw film after being absent from the franchise since 2017. The upcoming Saw movie is planned to be very much a John Kramer story and while don’t know the status of his contract yet or if talks have started, we’ll update you guys as we learn more.
Sources tell us the idea is that the story is being told from Kramer’s point of view as opposed to following the trap victims. We’ve been told that it’s planned to take place prior to Saw III although we couldn’t find out when specifically. Sadly, no other characters are slated to return at the moment but since the script is in the early stages, this could change in the future.

Tobin Bell has been with the Saw franchise in every installment except for Spiral. He portrayed the Jigsaw killer and placed victims into traps where freedom cost a heavy price (i.e, cutting off limbs, breaking your bones, burning yourself, killing other people and other disgusting things). John Kramer has had a very extensive backstory that utilized tons of flashbacks and retconning and it looks like they want to add more to it. Bell’s performance as the twisted killer has received constant praise from fans and critics and it’s no secret Bell loves playing the character as well. Since Jigsaw’s first appearance in 2004, he’s become a horror icon and that’s in big part due to Tobin Bell’s performance.

The upcoming Saw movie is being penned by Josh Stolberg and Pete Goldfinger and has no release date. What do you make of this news? Let us know!
